If you’ve been subscribed to my blog for a while, then you know that I love music. There’s music for every mood and occasion. Music helps me get into the writing mood, a happy mood, or whenever I’m in need of a little pick me up or inspiration. Lately, I’ve been listening to some great songs that I wanted to share with you all today! Here’s another playlist for you with a little bit of background as to why you should listen to these songs right now.
Relentless – Arkells
I’m going to write a short blurb about this band because they are one of my faves. Some of you may not have heard of Arkells before, so let me tell you… you are missing out. These guys are a Canadian band with large personalities and tons of talent. They are huge in Canada and widely popular for their upbeat rock songs and catchy lyrics. I’ve seen them twice in concert and their energy onstage is absolutely contagious. They’ve become popular in parts of the U.S. and even in the U.K. (I’m so proud of them!!)
Their new song “Relentless” from their next upcoming album Rally Cry is so fun, and again, catchy. It’s different from their other songs and it definitely stands out from all the rest. If you want to jam out with the windows down and music up, “Relentless” is the song for you. Arkells is one of my favourite bands, so I highly recommend listening to their other albums, too. They do not disappoint! If you want some more recommendations of Arkells songs, let me know and I’ll be happy to send you a list!

Youngblood – 5 Seconds of Summer
So I’ve never really listened to 5 Seconds of Summer before, and I know there are some super fans out there, so I hope that doesn’t offend anyone… BUT, I was driving the other day and heard this song on the radio and instantly became obsessed! It’s so catchy and reminds me of a song in a romcom where the guy is determined to get the girl and makes some grand gesture, like running all the way to the airport and confessing his love before she gets on a plane… which I don’t think is the premise of the song at all, but that’s just how I picture it. Like I said, I’ve never listened to 5 Seconds of Summer before, so if they’ve got any other songs like “Youngblood” let me know and I’ll give them a listen!
Promises – Calvin Harris and Sam Smith
Woo! Talk about a fun party song! I listen to this song every time I’m at the gym and all it does is make me want to dance around instead of lift weights.
First off, I love Sam Smith’s voice. Like, how can you not? Second, Calvin Harris’ songs are always so (I hate to use this word a fourth time) catchy. I don’t think theres a song he has that I don’t like. They’re a dynamic duo together!

My Blood – twenty one pilots
I usually find myself gravitating toward a new twenty one pilots song when one comes out. Their songs are so different and they never disappoint. “My Blood” in particular is the perfect windows down, music up kind of song, too.
There’s a Pop-ish vibe to it, but still has of Rock and Alternative elements. The song will easily get stuck in your head, without a doubt. Here’s the link if you want to give it a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obcCmQYg9bk
Nina Cried Power (feat. Mavis Staples) – Hozier
Hozier is finally back with new tunes and I’m so happy about it! Hozier’s first self-titled album was so amazing and brought me SO much inspiration. I used to listen to it when I would draw and write and it made me feel so creative and carefree.
I downloaded his new EP off of Apple Music and I fell in love. It was nice to finally hear his voice in some new music again. His new song with Mavis Staples brings back those classic Hozier vibes and his voice of course is hypnotizing. Listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkUHaz5lY3I
Side Effects (feat. Emily Warren) – The Chainsmokers
I’m sure most of you know this song already. This was the jam to my summer and I’m still jamming out to it today! I don’t usually listen to The Chainsmokers but this song gets me right up off my feet and dancing!
The music video features Camila Mendes (AKA Veronica Lodge from Riverdale) and you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuckTcoZG4Q
So, what are you waiting for? Put on those headphones and start listening!
