Happy Monday, everyone!
I had someone ask me the other day what makeup I was wearing and it was such an odd question to me because I didn’t really feel qualified to answer. I’m no makeup guru whatsoever and the only experience I have is putting makeup on my face since I was about 16. I do love it, though. Yes, there are days where I want to wipe my makeup off ASAP or go makeup free, but when I do put it on, which is usually every weekday morning for work, I feel fresh, confident and ready to start my day.
I usually use the same products each day, so below, I’m going to list the products I use and the order I use them in! I will also provide the price and the images will all be linked if you are interested in learning more.
To start off, I want to talk a little bit about my skin. I have very annoying combination skin. Certain products will set me off and I’ll be totally oily in some spots and completely dry in others and it makes me uncomfortable. It has taken me a few years to find the right products for me and most of them are from Sephora. Believe me, if I could use certain drugstore brands and save myself a few dollars, I would, but my skin just can’t take it. I also have a history of severely dry eyes and I wear contacts sometimes, so I have to find mascara that is safe for my eyes to use.
The first product I use is moisturizer. I love moisturizer. It is so important to nourish your skin and keep it healthy and I always feel so refreshed after putting it on. I use the Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator.
This moisturizer works so great with combination skin and keeps me hydrated all day. It is a little bit on the pricey side, but as I mentioned, it’s taken me a long time to find great products for my skin and this one has been worth every dollar!
The next product I use is a primer. Primers are so great if you are oily. They will keep your makeup on for much longer and help your makeup look amazing. I have used a few primers but the best one I’ve used is from Smashbox.
I have both of the primers below. If I have an irritated skin day, I’ll go for the green one. This one will reduce any redness or inflammation caused by blemishes or anything of the sort. If I’m having a better skin day, I’ll apply the pink/orange one. I only apply a tiny amount into my T-zone.
Moving on to the face products!
The next thing I will do is apply foundation on to my face with a damp makeup sponge. I used to use Beauty Blender, but I found other cheaper alternatives… I mean, let’s get real, why do I need to pay $30 for a sponge? The one I have been using is the Sephora brand beauty sponge, and it’s half the price and I find it works so much better than the Beauty Blender.
It took me YEARS to find a good foundation for my skin. I’ve used so many brands but all of them either made my skin so dry to the point where I could nearly peel it off, or so oily where I could wipe my entire face of makeup off. The foundation that I use and have been using for a long while now, is the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Hydrating Foundation. This foundation has done wonders for my skin. I put it on and it stays on. It probably helps that I also use the Smashbox primers beforehand, but most importantly, this foundation doesn’t dry out my skin or make it extremely oily. I’ll apply this all over my face with the damp beauty sponge.
The next product that I dive in with is concealer. I apply concealer to my under eyes, anywhere I might have a blemish/redness, and my eyelids and use it as an eyeshadow primer if I decide to wear eyeshadow that day. My go-to concealer is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer. This concealer is so great because it doesn’t go on too cakey and looks really natural on my skin. It also lasts all day, too and does a great job at covering things up if needed.
To set all of that in place, I put on a setting powder. Again, because of my sensitive combination skin, I don’t put on anything too heavy. I’ve been using the Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder in Translucent. I find that it does a great job of setting my foundation and concealer. I lightly apply this all over my face with a fluffy makeup brush.
The next face product I use is bronzer. I’m a pretty pale person… I have fair skin and I’m usually the first shade in every powder/foundation/concealer. So, bronzer is a product that I apply everyday to give myself some colour and dimension. It took me a while to find a bronzer I liked. Some were way too dark for my skin, some were way too glittery and some where just not bronze-y enough. This product is the most expensive product that I own and I purchased it when I got my new job as a little “congratulations” gift to myself. Plus, it is AMAZING for my skin tone and my skin. The bronzer I use is the Marc Jacobs Beauty O!Mega Bronzer Perfect Tan in the shade Tantric. Like I said, it’s the most expensive product I own but it’s worth every single penny. It’s the holy grail of bronzers. I’ll apply this with a bronzer brush on my cheeks, my forehead, and under my jawline as a contour.
Next, I apply some blush. I love blush. It’s so fun and flirty and the colours are always so fresh and pretty. I received a really great palette, the Sephora Winter Flush pallet, this past Christmas and I’ve been using it ever since. Unfortunately it was only a seasonal item so I don’t have the price or the link to the product. But, I usually go in with the shade at the bottom right hand corner, or sometimes I’ll mix a few of the shades together, and I’ll use a blush brush and apply it on the apples of my cheeks.
Next: HIGHLIGHTER. I love highlighter, too. It’s such a fun product to use! You can use it just on you cheeks, or go full out and use it all over your face and parts of your body that you’d like to accentuate. There are two highlighters that I use: my everyday highlighter, the Smashbox Spotlight Palette, or if I feel like going a little bit above and beyond, I’ll use the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter. I’ll apply these to my cheekbones with a highlighting brush.
I have very naturally long lashes and round eyes, so doing my eye makeup is my favourite part. (Depending on how I’m feeling, I’ll add eyeshadow, or somedays I’ll go without and just do liner and mascara. Lately, I’ve been doing eyeshadow with just mascara, but I’ll show you all the products I would use anyway.)
The first thing I’ll do is my brows. I don’t go too crazy with my brows, I just fill in the sparse areas with a brow pomade. My go-to product is the L’Oreal Paris Brow Stylist Frame & Set Gel. It’s not really a gel, to be honest, it’s more of a clay, I guess? But I love it because it’s easy to use and shape your brows with.
Next up, eyeshadow, if I decide to use it. Lately, I have been and I’ve been using the Tartelette In Bloom palette and using a few light shades on my eyes for an everyday look.
If I choose to wear eyeliner, I do a thin line above my upper lashes and I’ve been using the Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner, and I use the liquid side. I find that liquid liner stays on my eyes a lot longer than pencil.
My favourite part: Lashes. I use quite a few mascaras, depending on the circumstances. If I’m going on a night out, I’ll use the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara for full and voluptuous lashes. But, I use the Clinique High Impact mascara for my everyday look. This mascara gives me a fantastic everyday lash and doesn’t mess up my eyes, either.
Last but not least, on to lips. For an every day look, I like to go for a neutral colour. My go-to shades are MAC Mehr and MAC Velvet Teddy.
And, my friends, that concludes my everyday makeup routine! If the weather seems like it’s going to be super humid or rainy, I will spray on the NYX Matte Finishing Spray and I am ready to go!
