We all know the saying: “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
I was on Instagram earlier and I was looking through some of my older posts. Looking back at these photos made me remember all of the good times and the stories behind these photos. It inspired me to write a post on my favourite pictures on my phone, Google Drive – anywhere I have photos, really – and tell you all the funny, sad, or meaningless stories behind the photos.
Location: Epcot World Pavilions, Walt Disney World
The Story: I’m at Epcot World Pavilions, trying to get as many photo ops as possible. The characters at each spot are iconic, their outfits always glamorous and not usually seen around other parks.
The last time before this, I was at the Epcot World Pavilions in 2014 celebrating my 19th birthday. All I wanted to do at the time was take a photo with Aladdin. I went into the line where the meet and greet was, but a Disney Employee was standing there and said that the line up for this photo op was finished, but to come back in 45 minutes because they will be back again. I did just that. Yet, to my surprise, the line up was full again. These people denied a girl getting a photo with Aladdin for her birthday! How could they do me dirty like that?!
Anyway, flash forward 3 years later. I still wanted that photo with Aladdin that I never got on my 19th birthday. Because, we all know Aladdin is the most boss rags to riches, fool-your-way-into-being-Prince-Ali-Ababwa kind of guy. I just needed that photo.
So, I go all the way there to the same place, but the line up is still accepting people! I think, Success! I wait in the sweltering heat only to find out that it’s just Jasmine and not Aladdin. All in all, I never got my picture with Aladdin but I got a photo outside the place where the photos were being taken. Maybe next year? #EmilyMeetsAladdin2019 ?
Location: The RED Tour
The Story: It was my first ever Taylor Swift concert and I was so excited. My sister and I bought tickets off one of my friends at the time who was unable to go. They were floor seats! I never sat in floor seats at a concert before! Of course, when we get our seats, everyone in front of us is much taller and our seats are way off to the side so our views were quite obstructed. BUT, we still were able to see the screens and had a great time singing and dancing along.
What we didn’t know was that Taylor had another stage set up where anyone on the floor could watch! She ran through the floor isles while she sang “22” and a herd of people chased after her. I waited until the rush was over and strolled to the second stage and got this awesome pic. She and Ed Sheeran sang “Everything Has Changed” and it was incredible. Definitely a night to remember!
Location: Niagara Falls
The Story: For my 21st birthday, a few of my friends and I got a couple hotel rooms and took Niagara Falls by storm! It was one of the best birthdays I’ve had. We had drinks, ate great food, went to the casino, played in an arcade, went dancing, and stayed up until 5am… the latest I have ever stayed up in my entire life. It was one hell of a crazy weekend, but the memories and numerous photos and laughs were worth it.
Location: My best friend’s cottage
The Story: You ever work so hard you need a vacation and some relaxation? That’s what this photo was all about. It was my first full-time summer job and I hadn’t had any time to slow down. It was a job with my university, so we were prepping for new summer students and events, and all I wanted was to relax somewhere with my friends. Queue a nice, summer long weekend…
My best friend’s mom has a beautiful cottage right on the water, with a huge dock, deck chairs and a cozy fire pit. We spent all day sun tanning on the dock with glasses of wine, good music, and later on, tasty food and treats. I was so incredibly relaxed and happy in this moment and it’s as if I can close my eyes and relive it, right here, right now!
Location: Beast’s Castle, Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World
The Story: The Beast’s Castle had opened up recently at Magic Kingdom and we were dying to go. We heard that it wasn’t just a restaurant, but the views itself were all the rage. We went there for lunch, only to find out that you had to stand in a huge line up, which we actually didn’t mind… until it started pouring.
We popped open our umbrellas and we waited in that line up. We didn’t come all the way for nothing! We finally got inside and all of my Beauty and the Beast dreams came true. The castle was practically a replica from the classic film. The ceilings were painted the exact same as the ballroom, the windows had fake snow falling from them, and the chandeliers were just like the movie. At that point, I didn’t even care that my feet were soaked from the puddles; I was just in complete and utter awe.
